Volunteer Vacancies Youth Weapon Co-ordinators (6)

BACKGROUND

Following the successful experience of sending Scotland’s U15 and U13 fencers to Challenge Wratislavia in 2014 and 2015, we have decided to increase the opportunities for Scotland representation at these age groups.  In order to support this initiative we need to recruit six volunteers as Youth Weapon Co-ordinators – one for each weapon.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMPETANCIES

The Youth Weapon Co-ordinator’s rôle is to act as a focal point for matters involving their chosen weapon at U13 and U15 age groups. The position will require little specialist knowledge of the sport such that it will be well within the scope of a parent or adult social fencer with a desire to be part of something that benefits Scotland’s youth fencers. The position would enjoy the enthusiastic support of Scottish Fencing executive staff and Board.

Responsibilities:

·         Maintain knowledge of the selection competitions and training opportunities on offer (dates, venues and where to find information) in Scotland and the foreign events.

·         Provide parents with basic knowledge of the opportunities available to their youngsters to train and compete.

·         Maintain the simple ranking system used for Scottish youth.

·         Attend some of the ranking events to maintain visibility and generally promote the opportunities provided by Scottish Fencing for young fencers.

·         Support the Performance Manager (Don McKenzie) in increasing the pool of fencers and in generating stories for the Youth section of the website

·         Attend an annual meeting of all YWCs with PM to share experience and knowledge and to suggest areas for improvement

·         Identify potential successors

 

Competencies:

·         General professional manner and organisational skills.

·         Be willing to devote the modest amount of time and effort required.

·         Be able to communicate well with youngsters, parents and other parties.

·         Have a basic understanding of the Programme that they support.

·         Have IT skills at an appropriate level
