Scottish Team Selection Criteria (Senior)

SCOTLAND TEAM SELECTION

The main fixture involving the Scottish Team is the annual Home International.

To be eligible for selection for the Team a fencer must;

  • Have been a member of Scottish Fencing for at least a year at the time of selection.
  • Be eligible to represent Scotland (born in Scotland and/or one parent born in Scotland and/or residence or domicile in Scotland and/or having been selected to fence for Scotland team in the past.

Four fencers will be selected at each weapon and a captain named.

The selection criteria are:

  • The first three selections will be made strictly in order from the top 32 of the British Senior ranking. The fourth fencer will be selected at the discretion of the selection committee.
  • Where fewer than three eligible fencers are to be found within the top 32 places of the appropriate ranking, the selection committee can exercise their discretion based upon factors such as ranking (Senior, Junior or Cadet), experience and potential.

Selection will be made by the Performance Committee, and then passed to the Management Board for ratification before announcement.

It will be the responsibility of any fencer whose ranking has been adversely affected by an inability to compete to inform the Team Manager and to demonstrate their fitness prior to selection.

The only grounds for appeal will be a material inaccuracy in the rankings used for selection and any such appeal should be made in writing to the Administrator at the Scottish Fencing office within two weeks of the publication of the relevant rankings on the British fencing website.
