Louise Helyer

Team Manager
Day Job:
Physical Education Teacher

Louise is currently on maternity leave and will return in 2018.

Key responsibilities:  As Team manager my key responsibilities are to guide the process for selecting fencers for teams.  This extends from the creation of selection criteria through to the actual selection process.  All criteria and selections that we make are then ratified by the board of directors.

The performance committee is also responsible for proposing athletes for SF Elite Athlete Awards and SSA Grants as well as those fencers nominated for support from the sportscotland Institute of Sport.

Fencing background:  Competitive fencer (epee) for 9 years and a member of the  Scottish Silver medal Team at 2010 Commonwealth Championships.

Trained full time on the World Class Performance Pathway and competed for British Modern Pentathlon Team from 2003-2011 including at numerous World and European Championships.

Shortlisted Beijing Olympics 2008.

I am a Level 1 Epee Coach and qualified Physical Education Teacher.

I hope that my 8 years of experience as an elite athlete will provide a valuable insight within the Performance Committee and that I can help Scotland to produce the next generation of high performing fencers.
