News from the Boardroom - June 2011

The board of directors met in Caledonia House, Edinburgh on 7 June, with Mike O'Donnell taking the chair.

 

Present: Stephen D'Agostino (Director), Chris Hyde (President), Mike O'Donnell (Director), Ed Rogers (Director), Stan Stoodley (Director), Alan Loveland (Administrator).

Present for Gala Match discussion only: Helen Hellewell and Carol Ferrier from the Foundation for Scottish Fencing.

Apologies: Ewen Cameron (Sportscotland Partnership Manager).

Graeme Hart was unable to make it to Caledonia House but participated in the meeting by Skype video link.

Fernie Castle Gala Match 2011

Mike introduced two representatives of the Foundation for Scottish Fencing, Helen Hellewell and Carol Ferrier, to the meeting, which then spent some time discussing the plans for a men's foil gala demonstration match, Scotland vs England, proposed for August 2011. Agreement was reached on the respective roles of Scottish Fencing and the Foundation in staging the match, from which all proceeds would go to the Foundation.

Performance & Development

Graeme gave a report to the board from the Performance Committee on progress with considering the 15 applications received for elite athlete funding in 2011/12. It was expected that final recommendations would be submitted for board approval within the next few days.

Web Site

Stephen reported on progress with the redevelopment of Scottish Fencing's web site. He expected design samples and an updated development schedule to be available by the next board meeting.

Capital Equipment Purchase

Mike reported that the delivery of new pistes and scoring equipment had been completed, with all items ready for competition use. 

Streetsport

Ed informed the board of discussions he had recently had with Katharine Brown of Streetsport, an initiative aimed at introducing a range of sports to large numbers of young people, ages 12 to adult. There was the possibility of including fencing; further information was awaited.?
