Foil Coach CPD Workshops at the Youth Summer Camp

Serena Pivotti with Don McKenzie

Scottish Fencing is offering a further opportunity in 2013 for coaches to learn about the techniques and methodologies of Italian foil fencing at this year’s Coach Education Summer Camp in Largs. During the week of 8 -12th July 2013 there will be 2 workshops given by Serena Pivotti, a coach from the Como fencing club (where Arianna Errigo of the Italian ladies national foil team trains).

The workshops are for coaches who would like to gain insight into the approach and teaching philosophies of this very distinctive and successful style. Why, for example, are Italian foilists taught to come en garde in tierce rather than sixte? This and many other questions will be answered. These workshops will provide an invaluable opportunity to explore a different coaching model from that which is typically taught in Britain.

Coaches attending the morning workshop will be able to observe British National Academy technical training, strength & conditioning and sparring sessions. The evening sessions will cover the Italian school techniques and methodologies of the individual lesson, followed by a question and answer session. Coaches wishing to attend the evening sessions would be well advised to bring a video camera in order to get the most from this unique event.

The course is open to all Scottish Fencing coaches and is part of Scottish Fencing’s CPD programme for fencing coaches. Each coach attending the workshops may claim up to £50 towards their travel costs.  Coaches wishing to stay overnight will be offered accommodation and breakfast in the Sports Training Centre free of charge. Coaches may also attend on a non-residential basis.

There will be 2 workshops given during the week.
