School Games 2014

The performance committee have published the following team list for the School Games, to take place on 4 - 7 September in Manchester. Team members will shortly receive their written invitations.

Mark Alvarez-Peres takes bronze at Challenge Wratislavia, Poland

Mark Alvarez-Peres of West Fife Fencing Club took the bronze medal in the under 13 Boys Sabre event yesterday at Challange Wratislavia in Poland.

The event is one of the biggest youth events in the world and the U13 sabre featured competitors from some of the top fencing nations including Russia, Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Belarus and Latvia.

Holyrood Cup

We have received notice of a team event for foil and epee: the Holyrood Cup, which is to take place in Edinburgh on 4/5 October 2014. Further information will be published as it comes in.

Scottish Fencing Academy: update!

There was a fine turn-out for the Academy training day on Sunday 23 February.

Scottish Open 2014 - Thank you

The Scottish Open is our flagship event and a great deal of work goes into making it run so smoothly.  A dedicated team lead by Mike O'Donnell have worked tirelessly during the weeks approaching the event and particularly over the weekend itself. to deliver what has been another highly successful event.

NEWS FROM THE BOARD ROOM

Scottish Fencing’s board of directors convened for a board meeting at 6 pm on Wednesday evening 6 November in Caledonia House, Mike O’Donnell in the chair.

FIVE NATIONS TOURNAMENT

The organisation of the tournament by Scottish Fencing, at Edinburgh University’s Centre for Sport and Exercise and the Playfair Library Hall had been highly rated by the visiting teams. Particular praise was given to the decision to use a panel of highly skilled and experienced referees, as opposed to requiring each home nation to meet a referee quota.

New National Development Officer

Scottish Fencing's new National Development Officer, Alan Martin, started work this week.  Alan's role is focused on the development of our sport in Scotland, identifying opportunities to increase participation and membership wherever possible.

He will be in touch with all fencing clubs in Scotland over the next few weeks to discuss their needs and what we can do to help them grow.  Alan will also be available to speak to you at most Scottish Fencing events.
