Veterans Winton Cup 2016 - Results

The Veterans' Winton Cup is an annual team event, with teams representing various regions around Britain.  Scotland has never managed to provide a team but was invited to join the North Britain team a few years ago.  

After several years of receiving the "wooden spoon", this year North Britain achieved an excellent 3rd place (even with an incomplete team).  

Rio 2016 - 4th for Richard Kruse

Coming 4th is a great result in the Olympic Men's Foil and Richard Kruse came so close to winning a medal. It was a fantastic achievement and you can read a full report from British Fencing. And if you missed it you can watch the match here on the BBC Sport's Pages.

Veterans Celtic Challenge 2016 - Results

The 2016 Celtic Challenge was held in Dublin over the weekend of 23rd/24th July at DCU hosted by Ireland Fencing.  Veteran fencers from various Celtic nations took part in competitions over both days with their individual results being accumulated to decide the overall result for the Dragon Trophy.

After two busy days of competition (within an excellent Gala Diner on the Saturday evening), Wales returned home as the overall winners.  

2016 Challenge CEP Marathon fleuret Paris - Results

The Challenge CEP Marathon fleuret is an international foil competition in Paris for girls and boys aged 13 and under. It attracts competitors from all over Europe; Italy, Germany and Greece and also fencers from further afield Australia, Brazil and Turkey. The format is three rounds of poules then indirect elimination (DE with repechage) to the last 8 when there is direct elimination. There is a lot of fencing to reach the final and congratulations to Jaimie Cook and Milenka Zadora for reaching the last 8 in their events.

Here are the 2015-2016 Scottish Youth Rankings. This is the first year that a comprehensive ranking has been published for these age groups and this reflects the commitment Scottish Fencing has made to developing our stars of tomorrow. The points totals are based upon a fencer's best 6 results from 9 nominated competitions and this format will continue in the 2016-2017 season.

2016 LPJS Scotland - Results

It was great to see a very busy fencing hall both days of the Leon Paul Junior Series Scotland event held this weekend at Linlithgow Academy.  The fencers came from various locations including Shetland, Cardiff, Manchester and London.  Several competing in more than one weapon.  For some young fencers this was their first competition.

The overall Master-at-Arms from this year's competition were

  • Male Master at Arms : Alexandre Arbelet (Salle Holyrood) 
  • Female Master at Arms : Alex Wren (Strathclyde Uni / GWEFC)
  • Top Novice : Alex Wren (Strathclyde Uni / GWEFC)
