Edinburgh Open 2015: advance notice

Edinburgh Fencing Club have asked us to announce the date of the next Edinburgh Open tournament: 14/15 March 2015.

Epee and sabre events will take place on Saturday 14 March, foil events on Sunday 15 March. We have not been given the competition venue yet but on past form it's likely to be in Edinburgh.

New Fencing Classes in Aberfeldy

Fencing classes will be starting at the Breadalbane Community Campus, Aberfeldy, on 24th August 2013 and every Saturday thereafter from 1pm - 4pm. 

News from the Boardroom

Scottish Fencing’s board of directors met on 27 June 2012 with all five directors attending: Graeme Hart, Chris Hyde, Mike O’Donnell, Ed Rogers and Stan Stoodley. Apologies for absence were received from Ewen Cameron, Scottish Fencing’s partnership manager at Sportscotland. The meeting opened at 6.45 pm with Mike O’Donnell taking the chair.

Inverclyde Open 2013: 6 weapon tournament and team matches

Set in a beautiful, licensed sports complex in the countryside, with a Saturday night Ceilidh (Scottish Dance) and visiting foreign fencers, Inverclyde Open is one of the season's most enjoyable fixtures.

Friday 31st May 2013: 3 weapon mixed team matches

Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June: 6 weapon individual open tournament

Venue: Inverclyde National Sports Centre, Burnside Road, LARGS, KA30 8RW

Scottish Fencing has received an invitation to nominate members to take part in Edinburgh Leisure's Performance Access Scheme 2012/13 for promising athletes. Details of the scheme and the benefits it offers appear on

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • resident in Edinburgh or training in Edinburgh;
  • age in the range 8 to 25 years;
  • application endorsed by the sport's Scottish governing body.
