Workshop on concussion awareness

At the SFA training day on 22nd Feb we are going to hold a workshop on concussion awareness between 2pm and 4pm. Dr Willie Stewart, Consultant Neuropathologist, Honorary Clinical Associate Professor will run the workshop.

Level 1 coaching course report January 15

The recently formed Scottish Fencing Coaching Network delivered their first course in a fully rewritten coach education structure. The network was established last June by Coaching Manager Paul Neil-Mclachlan and Development Officer Alan Martin. The purpose is to have a group of the country’s most experienced coaches come together to share their knowledge and devise a system that meets the needs of coaches today.

Scottish Fencing Coaching Network; Level One Coaching Course (Free!)

Since the summer a group of our most experienced coaches have ben meeting with NDO

Alan Martin and Coaching Manager Paul Neil McLachlan. The aim of setting up this group

has been to rewrite our coach education courses and expand the workforce of course

tutors. Those involved to date have ben: Phil Carson, David Rollo, Keith Cook, Sean Walton,

Charity McArdle, Loraine Rose, and Ken Rose.

THE ALL NEW SCOTTISH FENCING PLASTIC FENCING QUALIFICATION

This action-packed day of learning allows coaches who are new to, or thinking about, teaching fencing to young people from a basic level to deliver taster and initial coaching sessions.  Coaches will be given pointers for additional sources of information and the course covers:

Foil Coach CPD Workshops at the Youth Summer Camp

Scottish Fencing is offering a further opportunity in 2013 for coaches to learn about the techniques and methodologies of Italian foil fencing at this year’s Coach Education Summer Camp in Largs. During the week of 8 -12th July 2013 there will be 2 workshops given by Serena Pivotti, a coach from the Como fencing club (where Arianna Errigo of the Italian ladies national foil team trains).

Scottish Fencing is continuing to offer “Ready Steady Fence” courses in the Coach Education Programme for the 2012-2013 fencing season.

An Interview with Serena Pivotti

Serena Pivotti was a successful international fencer who represented Italy at Women’s Foil, and is now a fully qualified international level coach at Ginnastica Comense. We have had the privilege of Serena’s coaching in Scotland on a couple of occasions now, and as part of our Coach Education Programme, Scottish Coaches had the chance to benefit from her knowledge, watching her give lessons and participating in a question and answer session at this year’s Scottish Fencing Summer Camp at SportScotland’s National Centre Inverclyde.

National Academy (Scotland) Summer Camp Report

This summer, at the sportscotland Inverclyde National Sports Centre in Largs, Scottish Fencing ran the National Academy (Scotland) National Training summer camp event which also incorporated Scottish Fencing Coach Education Workshops and Scottish Institute of Sport Psychology Workshop.
